Phantom Guide

^Introduction

Phantom is one of the five heroes from the old Maple legend in which five heroes battled against the Black Mage, 100 years ago. Phantom is the thief hero of the 5 and will be using a cane and special cards to attack. His name originates from the fact that nobody was able to figure out his true identity, thus being nothing more than a Phantom to all.

Phantom has high evasion and critical chance. With this class the new system of stealing skills is introduced, which is exclusive to Phantom of course.

^0. The storyline.

Famous among the wealthy merchants and noblemen, a century ago Phantom was known as a thief. A very presumptuous one at that. He left traces of his stealing which only revealed that he was the person committing the crime, not who the person exactly is. Due to people not being able to figure out his true identity, he was named “Phantom”.

Despite his deeds, throughout the world he was honoured. Phantom ended up becoming a hero due to the loss of Aria. Aria was the Empress of Ereve before Cygnus. Phantom had fallen in love with Aria while trying to steal the great treasure of Ereve. Aria’s death however, drove him to the point where he sought out Freud, the original dragon master. Through Freud, Phantom joined the heroes to seek revenge on the Black Mage. To little surprise, just like all other heroes (excluding the dead Freud), Phantom was trapped into ice by the Black Mage’s curse.

Now, 100 years later, Phantom reawakens from the curse. After reawakening Phantom infiltrates Ereve. A meeting is held in Ereve in which Hilla, a commander of the Black Wings, poses as an Empress, by showing the jewel Skaia, which glowed in her hands. It is told that Skaia would glow in the hands of the Empress of Ereve. However, the Skaia did not glow in the hands of the real Empress. This is where Phantom comes in and saves the day. He destroys the Skaia held by Hilla due to it being fake. He reveals that he owns the true Skaia, which makes Hilla flee from Ereve. Phantom then returns the Skaia to the true Empress, Empress Cyngus. After his noble deed, he returns to the Crystal Garden.

^1. The Phantom’s basics.

When creating a Phantom, you are not restricted by gender. You have the choice of 2 hairstyles and 2 different eye sets for both male and female. Besides that, you are allowed to pick any hair color you want.

The creation of a Phantom.

1.1 Why would I create one in first place?

Pros
Is both a ranged and melee class.
Has the ability to steal skills such as Holy Symbol.
Crystal Garden has great advantages (I.E. Fast travelling between continents)
Free Wheel of Destiny buff (Final Feint)
Like Mercedes, they have a sub-weapon that can have potential (Arrows = Cards).
They own a linkable skill that adds 10% critical rate.
Has a storyline filled with romance and action.
PIMP CAR!
High mobility, Swift Phantom/Phantom shroud.
High avoid and crit rates.
Is actually a fairly balanced class.

Cons
People will probably get on your case about the class being bandwagoned and “overpowered”.
Your Hp and MP are relatively low.
Due to the weapons and skill books being newly introduced, they will be pricey till a certain point.
Phantoms can be found a little boring at 1st to 3rd job. However, it gets better at 4th job.

1.2 AP distribution.

Still many people wonder about how to allocate your ability points. In today’s game climate, this should be nothing to be worried about. If you are completely clueless you can simply choose to auto-assign your points, however you still need to know at a certain point when to stop adding to a certain stat.

Let’s start out by checking out which stats you need in first place. A Phantom is nothing more than a Night lord when it comes to stats. The most important stat will be LUK and your secondary stat will be DEX. The regular build would be to add 1 DEX and 4 LUK every level, ensuring you have XX DEX above your current level.

However it’s so painfully easy nowadays to receive extra stats, that there’s no need to keep adding into DEX. Personally we suggest that you at least try to go for low DEX. This will pay off in the end because as a Phantom, you will be receiving a lot of DEX for simply being, a Phantom.

We created a little list of items you might be able to acquire. Some of these items are free from events and some you might be able to get through a quest or simply purchasing it.

Item DEX
Base +4
Evo Ring 1 +7
Evo Ring 2 +7
Evo Ring 3 +10
Legendary ring +3
Deputy Star +5
Cannonshooter linked skill +15
High Dextery +40
Raven Persona +10 / 20
Total 106 / 111

High dextery is a passive skill you have that adds 40 dex already. The Raven Persona is an item that adds 10 DEX which you can acquire through a hot time event. When you’re a third job Phantom you will get an additional 10 DEX (Totalling 20 DEX). You end up with about 106 / 111 DEX just from items. I think based upon this we can conclude that going dexless isn’t all too hard. At least, going low dex should be the highest you go when it comes to adding DEX.

What we suggest however, is to calculate how much extra DEX you have BEFORE you create the character. Based upon how much extra DEX you think to have, choose a build.

1.3 How to steal skills.

Step Procedure
1. Find the Adventurer character you wish to steal a skill of.
2. Open up your Skills UI, and click on the beginner tab. Here you will find the skill named “Steal Skill”.
3. Double click on the skill “Steal Skill”. Your screen should be dimmed down and a round frame will appear on your screen. This frame can be moved around by you.
4. Click on the Adventurer character you have found in step 1. A skill UI will open with the list of skills for each job advancement, that you can steal. Remember, you need at least one empty slot in your Skill management UI in order to steal a skill. You can steal up to the job advancement you have achieved. If you are currently a level 87 Phantom (meaning third job) you cannot steal a fourth job skill. However you CAN steal a skill from someone who is fourth job (you can steal his 3rd job skills).
5. Choose and select the skill you wish to steal from the Adventurer and press the yellow button that says “Steal Skills”. Tadah, you now have stolen a skill. Have fun with it.

You can’t steal skills from Heroes, Resistance or side Adventurers (e.g Dual Bladers and Cannon Shooters). You can only steal skills from Adventurers, Magicians, Archers, Warriors, Thieves and Pirates.

Every job advancement has Talent of Phantom Thief. The master level of this skill, decides the maximum level of the skill you steal. Therefore, in third job the skills you steal will be no higher than level 20 and in fourth job it can go up to level 30.

The level of the skill you steal depends on the level it is on the adventurer you steal it from. Therefore if a Bowmaster has level 20 Sharp Eyes, you will steal level 20 Sharp Eyes even though your Talent of the Phantom Thief might be level 30. It will display as 20/30.

However if you steal level 30 Sharp Eyes while Talent of the Phantom Thief is level 10 for example, it will display as 30/10. Therefore you will be able to use level 10 Sharp Eyes until you raise your Talent of the Phantom Thief.

1.4 Which skills can be stolen.

Job Available skills Recommended
1. Magician Magic Guard, Magic Armor, Energy Bolt and Magic Claw. Magic Guard.
2. Fire / Poison wizard Meditation, Fire Arrow and Poison Breath. None.
2. Ice / Lightning wizard Meditation, Cold Beam and Thunderbolt. Thunder Bolt.
2. Cleric Bless, Heal, Invincible and Holy Arrow. Heal.
3. Fire / Poison mage Elemental Decrease, Explosion, Poison Mist, Fire Demon and Seal. None.
3. Ice / Lightning mage Elemental Decrease, Ice Strike, Ice Demon and Thunderspear. None.
3. Priest Holy Symbol, Dispel and Shining Ray. Holy Symbol.
4. Fire / Poising Arch mage Big bang, Paralyze, Meteor and Mist Eruption. Paralyze.
4. Ice / Lightning Arch mage Big bang, Blizzard, Glacier Chain and Chain Lightning. Chain Lightning.
4. Bishop Big bang, Angel Ray, Advanced Bless, Buff Mastery, Resurrection and Big Bang. Advanced bless.

See the mage skills to be used mainly for training. I don’t think Holy Symbol and Chain lightning truly need an explanation. Advanced blessing is a nice buff for you and your party to up the range. Magic guard, well if you have MP to spare is not a bad choice.

Job Available skills Recommended
1. Warrior Iron body, Slash Blast and Power strike. None.
2. Fighter Rage, Brandish, Power Reflection and Ground Smash. Rage and Power Reflection.
2. Page Power Guard, Threaten and Ground Smash. Power Guard and Threaten.
2. Spearman Hyper Body, Iron Will and Ground Smash. Hyper Body.
3. Crusader Shout, Combo Attack, Magic Crash, Panic and Coma. Magic Crash and Combo Attack.
3. White Knight HP Recovery, Magic Crash and Combat Orders. Magic Crash and Combat Orders.
3. Dragon Knight Dragon Buster, Dragon Fury, Dragon Roar, Dragon Strength, Sacrifice and Magic Crash. Magic Crash.
4. Hero Monster Magnet, Rush, Intrepid Slash and Power Stance. Power Stance.
4. Paladin Power Stance, Blast, Rush and Heaven’s Hammer. Power Stance.
4. Dark Knight Monster Magnet, Power Stance, Rush and Dark Impale. Power Stance and Dark Imaple.

Rage as an extra attack buff, threaten to lower defense of a monster, hyper body for extra HP and MP. Pretty simple. Combat orders for higher leveled skills, magic crash to be loved while bossing and combo attack because you’re cool like that. Power stance because less knock back is awesome when bossing.

3. Sniper Arrow Eruption, Blizzard, Strafe, Puppet, Dragon Breath and Concentration. Arrow Eruption and Concentration.
4. Bowmaster Hurricane and Sharp Eyes. Hurricane and Sharp Eyes.
4. Marksman Pierce, Sharp Eyes and Snipe. Sharp Eyes.

Archers aren’t at all that interesting in the first few jobs, so as a low leveled Phantom you can ignore them. However concentration and Sharp Eyes are two obvious buffs you might want to considering getting. Arrow Rain and Eruption for training purposes. Hurricane works pretty well as a bossing skill.

Job Available skills Recommended
1. Pirate Somersault Kick and Double Fire. None
2. Brawler Screw Punch, Mental Clarity and Tornado Upper. Mental Clarity and Tornado Upper.
2. Gunslinger Magnum Shot. None.
3. Marauder Double Spiral, Shockwave, Willow Defense and Lucky Dice. Double Spiral.

Rapid fire for bossing, Pirate Style for damage increase, status and elemental resistance and it reduces 30% avoid AND it has a stance effect. Only choose Pirate Style if you want the stance effect though. This being something you can get from warriors as well.

1.5 Judgement, explained.

Buffs are being added.

Upon reaching your second job advancement, you acquire a stack of cards on the side of your screen. You can use this stack of cards when it’s completely full. It is used in the beginner skill Judgement. When reaching the maximum amount of cards, you get a buff. You can reach the card’s max by hitting critical damage on any monster.

You start off with a maximum of 20 cards in your stack. When reaching your fourth job, you will have a maximum of 40 cards.

^Hyper skills.

With all credit for provided information to Orangemushroom. Rewritten for Phantoms specifically, by Skyenets: of course.

What are they and how do they work?

With the introduction of the Tempest patch (which is expected to come around in December for GMS), we will be receiving new skills. These skills are called Hyper skills. They are located in your skills tab, displayed through a separate button.

How do these skill points work?

Like I said before, they’re in a separate tab from your regular skills, and you will not have to give up Skill points from your current growths to add to them.

There are three different types of Hyper skills. You will be receiving separate skill points for these skills.

1. Stat enhancing passive skills (13 total).
6 Skill points.

2. Skill enhancing passive skills (9 total).
5 Skill points.

3. Attacks and buffs (3 total).
3 Skill points.

Every skill will be maxed after adding 1 skill point. This means that for enhancing skills, you will have to make choices. While for attacks and buffs, you will be able to max out all skills.

Starting at level 140, you will be receiving skill points every 10 levels.

Level 140:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Skill enhancing SP: +1

Level 150:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Attack/buff SP: +1

Level 160:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Skill enhancing SP: +1

Level 170:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Attack/buff SP: +1

Level 180:
Skill enhancing SP: +1

Level 190:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Skill enhancing SP: +1

Level 200:
Stat enhancing SP: +1
Skill enhancing SP: +1
Attack/buff SP: +1

Don’t worry if you mess up your Hyper Skills. By paying 100k for your first reset (which goes up to 10M for your fifth+), you can do your build all over again.

^8. So I need to level up.

And for that reason we have included this little training guide for you. Honestly, nowadays it’s pretty darned easy to get to level 120 and up. We have listed most of the training spots that are worth the trouble, however we highly suggest that everyone comments with their own personal taste. We can’t know what is popular in other servers, as we are die-hard Scanians.

8.1 Personal training guide

We decided to create two different builds. One that includes variation and one that includes sheer speed when it comes to leveling. We personally tend to go for the speed build ourselves, however when casually playing, we don’t mind the variation (it’s actually more fun that way).

Note: We’re not really used to low leveled training. Therefore we might have missed out on lower level locations.

Speed:
1 – 10: Class quests.
11 – 20: Class quests and Blue Ribbon pigs.
20 – 30: Scarecrows.
30 – 45: CDs (Kerning city square).
45 – 80: Jesters.
80 – 90: MP3.
90 – 110: Aliens.
110 – 117: Crockies (LHC).
117 – 160: Bearwolves.
160 – 200: Stronghold.

Variation:
1 – 10: Class quests.
11 – 20: Class quests and Blue Ribbon pigs.
20 – 30: Scarecrows.
20 – 30: Golem temple.
30 – 35: Mushroom castle.
30 – 45: CDs (Kerning city square).
45 – 80: Jesters.
50 – 70: Ludibrium party quest.
70 – 110: Romeo and Juliet party quest.
80 – 110: MP3
80 – 110: Aliens
80 – 110: Captains and Krus
110 – 200: LHC
160 – 200: Stronghold.

8.2 Monster/location recommendations.

Suggestions are more than welcome.

Level 10 – 30
1x – 18: Blue Ribbon Pigs.
18 – 20: Amdusias quest.

56 – 62: Robos.
50 – 65: Scarecrows in Haunted Mansion
62 – 70: Mateons OR Barnard/Zeta Grays.
50 – 80: Jesters

Level 70-110
70 – 78: Scorpions/Sand Rats.
50 – 80: Jesters.
78 – 83: Iron Mutae/Triple Rumo.
83 – 90: Roids.
85-88: Mithril Mutae.
86-92: Roids/Neo Huroids
80 – 100: Selkie Jr. and Slimy(MP3)
90 – 100: Homunculus.

Level 120 – 200

120 – 130: Papulatus twice a day.
125 – 130: Blue Dragon Turtle.
125 – 130: Red Dragon Turtle.
125 – 130: Lycanthrope.
125 – 135: Rexton.
125 – 135: Brexton.
137 – 150: Dark Cornians.
140-200: Skelegons/Skelesaurus (The mini dungeon)
110 – 200: Temple of Time (Just go to the highest available map).
110 – 200: Lion heart castle.
160 – 200: Stronghold.

8.3 Party quests

Level 20 – 70
– Moon bunny. (Henesys)
– First time together. (Kerning)
Dimensional Crack. (Ludibrium)
– The Ice knight’s curse.

Obviously Ludibrium party quest gives great EXP. But before you rush into LPQ at level 20, I highly suggest doing Kerning party quest 10 times. Once you’re level 30 and job advanced, you’ll be free to LPQ. Seeing as 20 to 30 is a lot faster, you might as well choose the worse PQ for that. You can finish KPQ in about 3 minutes if you have a decent enough party. Ice knight party quest becomes available at level 30. It’s not as good as LPQ but it’s decent enough. You might have troubles finishing, as it’s rather hard at the lower levels. My greatest advice for party quests would be to do the recommend one every day (3 times of course). Also, I personally wouldn’t bother doing PQ’s till level 25-30. There’s better training alternatives for this.

Level 70 – 125
Forest of the poison haze. (Ellin forest)
– Remnant of the Goddess. (Orbis)
Romeo and Juliet. (Magatia)
– Lord Pirate. (Herb town)

Now you might be wondering, why till level 125? The first 5 levels are a bit tedious unless you have a good LHC party or a good party at other party quests. My personal experience is that in the higher level PQ’s, you actually really only see higher leveled people. Unless you can find a party around level 120-140, you should stick around the other PQ’s for a bit.

A personal experience is that when you do Magatia PQ, at the roods room you should choose to stay there till 5 minutes are left on the clock. Make sure that both rooms there are done and that you can easily go to the next stage by giving the file to either one of the NPCs. It’s a great spot to grind and a nice change in the constant PQing. You can do the same thing in the last part of Pirate PQ. Simply collect all keys and leave at 15 seconds. Don’t worry, you will be given new time when you reach the boss.

120 – 200
– Escape. (Lion heart castle)
– Resurrection of the Hoblin King. (El nath)
– Kenta in danger. (Aquarium)
– Dragon’s nest. (Leafre)

DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST, DRAGON’S NEST.

I hope it’s clear that this PQ is extremely underestimated by many. Even at a high level it’s a great source of EXP. It’s a quick PQ depending on your party, and has a great exp gain. The death rates are not at all as bad as they used to be due to the fact that people can quickly kill now.

Kenta PQ for the goggles and perhaps Escape for the belt. Though we would personally not really do either of them for the EXP.

8.4 Extras.

Monster park:
Monster park is something you can do at any level. The minimum level is 13 and the maximum is 200. To enter the park, you will be needing a ticket. There’s three types of tickets. The Zebra stripe ticket, the Leopard stripe ticket and the Tiger stripe ticket. While killing monsters, pieces of these tickets can drop. Upon collecting 10 of them, you can exchange these pieces for a full ticket. This you can do at the NPC called Mary. She will be located in the Monster park map after you use the Monster Park Shuttle. She also sells you complete entrance tickets. You are able to purchase 3 of these tickets each day. What makes Monster Park interesting is the fact that you have a mini version of LHC based upon your level. For each party member you have, you get an additional 50% experience. Each time you enter the monster park, you receive about 20 minutes to get through about 5 to 6 rounds. In each round you will have to beat monsters to proceed to the next round.

Zebra stripe tickets:
50,000 Mesos.
Click

Leopard stripe tickets:
100,000 Mesos.
Click

Tiger stripe tickets:
200,000 Mesos.
Click

Skyenets: is really fond of Monster Park, however not so much for training. It’s nearly impossible to find a full party due to the lack of people actually doing MP, even though we’re in Scania. If you can solo Monster Park, you might find it enjoyable. That’s basically why big-Sue likes it, she can solo it with ease. In earlier levels, you might find it easier to find a companion.

^10. Frequently asked questions.

Q. What are linked skills?
A. When you get one of the new classes in the Legend patch to level 70, you can link their “Link skill” to another character. This way these characters will be able to benefit from the skill. You can only link the skill to one character at the time. You are allowed to change the link once a day. Next to that there is no limit to changing it.

Q. When is Phantom coming to GMS?
A. Nexon has announced that they will be releasing Phantom somewhere in June. However we cannot entirely count on this statement, we can say that this is a pretty sure-to-be date. When in June it’ll be released, is a mystery.

Q. What weapon does a Phantom use?
A. Phantoms use a Cane as a primary weapon and cards as a secondary (similar to Mercedes).
Answered by Novarain:

Q. Are canes one hand weapons, or two hand weapons?
A.Canes are ONE HANDED WEAPONS

Q. How do cards work?
A. Cards works as a Secondary weapon. You equip it like the Mercedes Arrows, but they function very differently. They are like a another cover of a weapon. For example, you steal the skill Haste, when you use the skill the card lets the cane turn into a glowing claw that Night Lords use for the time that takes it to buff.

Q.Do I need to wear the Card to be able to use the skills?
A.Yes you do need to wear the card, just like how Mercedes class can’t attack without their arrows.

Q. When Phantom steal skills like HS or Sharp Eyes, can the stolen skills affect the whole party or is only a self-buff thing?
A. The stolen buffs work like how they should, they effect all the party members and yourself. The level of the stolen skill however, will not exceed the level of your steal skill.

Q. Can you only steal skills from people on the same job as you, or same level?
A. You can steal skills from any Adventurer Job, and you don’t have to be the same level as the person you are stealing from. However to steal 4th job skills you actually need to be 4th job.

Q. How many skills can you have stolen at once?
A. You have 4 slots for first and second job, 3 for third job, and 2 for fourth job. However, if you use a skill then switch Active skills, the effect of the first skill will disappear.

Q.Can I steal skills from Resistence/Cygnus/Side Adventurers?
A.No, you cannot steal from them.

Q. Is it possible to steal skills from UA/UE classes? I.E. Shark wave or Flame gear?
A. No, you can’t steal them because they are in the beginner skill tab, which you cannot access. Nor are you able to steal skills from a Cygnus knight, which these basically are. You are however able to steal skills from an Ultimate Adventurer, as long as it’s the regular Adventurer skill.

Q. From the classes you can steal from, can you PICK a move out of their whole set?
A. Yes, you can. However this is limited to Active skills, excluding summons. Also, you can only steal skills from jobs advancements in which you have gotten points into the Talent of Phantom Thief skill. Meaning that at first job, you are unable to steal from 4th job Adventurers.

Q. Is it possible to macro three talent of the Phantom thief , ie 1st 2nd 3rd job on one macro?
A. As long as it doesn’t have a cool down it can be macro’d.
